Each year WAPA presents two awards:
John Lynker / Golden Gear
Presented during the WAPA Gala each year, the John Lynker / Golden Gear award honor a person or organization that has made an outstanding contribution to the automotive industry. John Lynker, a founding member of WAPA, was a legendary automotive journalist at Washington’s WTOP radio station, as well as a newspaper columnist and magazine contributor. Past winners include Roger Penske, J.D. Power, Carroll Shelby, Robert Lutz, Carlos Ghosn, Henrik Fisker, and John W. Hetrick, designer of the patented airbag. Golden Quill
Each year WAPA honors an outstanding, original piece of journalism (print, broadcast, or Web) related to autos or the auto industry. It can be either a single article or a series of related articles published in 2012. Journalists working within the Washington-Baltimore area are eligible.
Congratulations goes out to Angela Greiling Keane, a reporter for Bloomberg News, winner of the WAPA 2012 Golden Quill award. Greiling Keane was honored for her in-depth look at the Department of Energy's (DOE) loan program to support the development of alternative fuel vehicles.
