Joining WAPA

Membership in the Washington Automotive Press Association is limited to:

1. Associate Members are persons professionally and regularly involved with issues of significant impact upon the automotive industry who act as sources of information for journalists. These would include motor vehicle industry representatives; government employees who are primarily concerned with motor vehicles; employees of non-governmental organizations whose primary business involves the automotive industry; representatives of national associations of automotive manufacturers or related industries and staff members of Congressional committees that have a relationship with automotive industry. (Associate and Industry — $100)

2. Journalists who regularly cover motor vehicles and other areas of the automotive industry, including editors, reporters, photographers, camera operators and producers. (Regular — $50)

3. Non-voting membership is available to persons who professionally and regularly are involved with issues of significant impact on the automotive industry but who do not qualify for regular membership. (Other Press, Students, Inactive Press — $25)

Membership is renewed annually. Membership fees are:

  • Associate and Industry $100 — Professionals actively involved with issues and/or products, manufacturers, trade associations, OEMs.
  • Regular $50 — Working press, government officials.
  • Other Press, Students, Inactive Press $25 — Individuals that are members of other automotive press organizations that live more than 150 miles from Washington, DC, as well as Journalism students and former WAPA members who have retired from active reporting.

New members must apply to the Board of Directors for approval with a sponsor from the Association. Membership applications are downloadable here.

Members receive an annual membership directory and access to the association’s Web site that includes a monthly newsletter and announcements of coming events.

Officers and Board of Directors are elected annually after selection by a nominating committee. Voting is limited to Regular. Associate and Industry members. Each year a slate of officers is presented for: President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Chairman of the Media Focus Group.

2010 Calendar

Street Dreams Antique Car Show
Sunday, September 5, 2010 is the date for the next Street Dreams invitational antique car show. The event, featuring vehicles that have been the subject of articles by Vern Parker, will be at Spring Hill Recreation Center in McLean, Va. The free, five-hour car show starts at 10 a.m. Spring Hill Recreation Center is located at the intersection of Spring Hill Road and Lewinsville Road.

Noon, National Press Club

Marc Trahan, Director of After Sales and Technical Service, Audi of America, will give a presentation on the fabulous new A8 as well as other Audi news. Lunch provided by Audi. Reservations required.
